Fox TV show films in Ridgewood

By Eric Jankiewicz

For a few days this week, Ridgewood was Gotham City. The Fox television show “Gotham” filmed in Ridgewood this week, according to city notices posted around Palmetto Street and Onderdonk Avenue. The show filmed in the area earlier this year under the Seneca Avenue train station.

Local blog Ridgewood Social observed the filming that took place earlier this year in Ridgewood. Filming went from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and the producers recreated the feel of a city in the past.

“When the director said, ‘action’ the lights went on and the fog machines started pouring ambience into the streets,” the blog’s author wrote. “As the M train moved above us, fireworks and lights simulated the screeching wheels of a supposed older train seen in the comic books.”

There have been sightings of the show being filmed across Queens. The borough’s aesthetic variety lends itself to a fictional city rotten with crime .

Sites where the show has been shot include Long Island City, 5 Pointz and Fort Totten.

“Gotham” is produced by Fox and draws on the Batman DC comics series. The series premiered last September. The second season is being filmed now and is set to premiere this September.
