JFK workers allegedly steal $250K

JAMAICA — Six current and former cargo handlersat JFK International Airport, three from Queens and three from Brooklyn, were arrested and charged in federal court Wednesday with conspiracy to steal United States mail and money laundering, according to U.S. attorney in Brooklyn.

The defendants were identified as Frantz Janvier, 32; Greguy Janvier, 34; and Jamila Malika Allen, 24, from Brooklyn and Machel Scarlett, 37; Tracey Mellisa Sandy, 45; and 50-year old Melbourne Black from Queens.

According to the federal criminal complaint, the scheme involved three people who agreed to steal the mail and targeted international flights which they believed carried foreign currency. They then exchanged the foreign currency at currency exchange businesses at JFK Airport and at other financial institutions. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said it estimates that the loss attributable to the mail theft is likely to exceed $250,000.
