By Tom Momberg

A 58-year-old man died in a fire at a Glen Oaks home early Thursday morning where he was discovered by fire personnel in the basement, according to the NYPD.

Fire personnel described the scene as having “Collyers’ Mansion” conditions, which refers to debris or clutter inside a structure that makes it difficult for emergency personnel or occupants to move through.

Investigators on scene said there were no other injuries.

The fire, on 265th Street near 79th Avenue, caused extensive interior damage, but the cause of the blaze was still under investigation, the FDNY said.

Police and the Fire Department responded to a 911 call at about 6:30 a.m. and had the fire under control shortly after arrival.

The medical examiner was called to the scene by 9 a.m., but had not yet released the cause of death, according to police.

The identity of the fire victim had not yet been released and was pending notification of the man’s family, the NYPD said.
