Prank calls allege hijacking plans at LGA: PA

By Madina Toure

EAST ELMHURST —The Port Authority is investigating two prank calls claiming that JetBlue flights at LaGuardia Airport were going to be hijacked.

At about 5:22 a.m. Tuesday, a caller believed to be male told a 911 operator that there were two individuals on JetBlue Flight B57 heading to Jamaica attempting to hijack the aircraft, according to Joseph Pentangelo, a PA spokesman.

The second call, at about 10:30 a.m., made a similar claim about JetBlue Flight 357 to Jamaica but the flight was headed to New England, Pentangelo said.

By 11:44 a.m., the PA’s Police Department determined the calls’ claims were unsubstantiated, Pentangelo added. The calls came from Manhattan.

The Transportation Security Administration and JetBlue’s Corporate Security team are also investigating the matter.
