By Sadef Ali Kully

WOODHAVEN — An elderly woman was scammed Sept. 9 by a couple into handing them $90,000 in cash in Woodhaven, police said.

The 80-year-old female victim was in front of 80-35 Jamaica Ave., near the Queens County Savings Bank, when she was approached by a woman in her 40s, who then left in a Jeep Cherokee Latitude, according to police officials.

Police said a woman asked the victim if she could help her cash a winning lottery ticket. While discussing the issue, a man wearing a pink shirt and blue jeans approached the victim and helped explain what she had to do in order to help the woman.

After the victim agreed to help, she withdrew $90,000 in cash and handed it to the suspects, police said.

The suspects then drove the victim back to her house and asked her to produce a utility bill to prove that it was in fact her residence. When the victim came back out with the paperwork, the suspects had fled, said police.

Police describe the suspects as Hispanic.
