A three-touchdown day from Aaron Griffin was more than enough to earn Tim Smith his first victory as Holy Cross head coach.
The senior running back carried the ball 17 times for 246 yards to give the Knights a 34-7 victory over host Chaminade in a CHSFL Class AAA game last Saturday.
Jeremiah Nelson added two rushing touchdowns and 87 yards on 14 carries. Dylan McCutchen caught two two-point conversions from Joseph Fellin. Kahron Hogans and Revonne Smalls made key defensive plays.
Long Island City 20, Evander Childs 14: Dayshawn Small rushed for 243 yards and a touchdown for Long Island City (4–1). He made nine tackles and recovered a fumble. Wilton Calderon completed seven of 24 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown to Jarius Jones. He ran for 42 yards and a score.
Eagle Academy III 22, Alfred E. Smith 6: Quarterback Gary Newman had 118 yards of total offense and two touchdowns for Eagle Academy III (1–4). He threw for 92 yards and a score to Omar Morrissey, who also had a rushing touchdown. Tyler Nation carried the ball 16 times for 121 yards
Springfield Gardens 52, Franklin K. Lane 34: Christopher Clarke ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries for Springfield Gardens (3-2). Corwyn Ellis threw a touchdown pass to Tahzjai, who also collected an interception. Justin Mecure added a score on the ground.
Jamaica 8, George Washington 6: Garfield McDonald carried the ball 15 times for 90 yards and a score for Jamaica (5-0). Benjamin Obikoya made 10 tackles.
Fredrick Douglass Academy 32, Bryant 12: James Goodman carried the ball 14 times for 105 yards and a touchdown for Bryant (1-4). Jacob Orejuela ran an interception back for a score.
Petrides 20, John Adams 12: Antwon James completed 11 of 24 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown to Edward Rios for John Adams (1-4). Christopher Rios added a rushing score. Calvin King made five tackles and recovered a fumble.
McKee/Staten Tech 22, Bayside 6: Quarterback Tequan Evans posted 137 yards of total offense for Bayside (3-2). Abiola Shobitan made eight tackles.
