Transgender woman beaten in Jackson Heights

By Bill Parry

Police from the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights were searching for a man who brutally attacked a transgender woman early Sunday morning. Officers responding to a 911 call discovered the 35-year-old victim with multiple injuries to the head and face around 4 a.m. on 93rd Street near 37th Place.

The victim had gotten into an argument with the suspect, according to the NYPD. After the woman was knocked to the ground, her head was repeatedly slammed into the sidewalk and curb, police said.

The suspect, described by investigators as a Hispanic man age 30 to 35, fled north on 93rd Street. He is described as 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds and he was wearing a black hoodie and dark pants, according to the NYPD.

EMS took the victim to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where she was in critical condition.

There have been no arrests and the investigation was continuing. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force has been notified, according to a police spokeswoman.
