Crook attempted to steal 11-year-old’s phone in Astoria, cops say

Police are asking for help to identify a man who tried to rob an 11-year-old on an Astoria street last Thursday.

On March 31st, the suspect approached the victim at the intersection of 21st Avenue and 43rd Street. He reportedly walked up behind him, put his arm around the boy’s shoulder and tried taking his phone from the victim’s pocket, police said.

According to authorities, the victim resisted and the suspect fled. No injuries were reported.

Police describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches and 200 hundred pounds. The suspect also has dyed red hair.
