NYPD responded to a call Sunday at Queens Center Mall, located at 91-15 Queens Blvd., when one of the rides at a kiosk erupted in flames.

The attraction called Animal Riders allows children to ride a motorized version of their favorite animal. At around 3 p.m., however, one of these units ignited while it was charging, said John Scaturro, head of marketing for Queens Center.

The fire was short-lived with a mall employee using a fire extinguisher to get control over the blaze. Nobody was injured in the fire, Scaturro said.

According to Scaturro, the FDNY did not respond to the incident because the fire was put out before they could be summoned. The Animal Riders Kiosk was told to temporarily suspend operations until Queens Center management could determined the service to be safe for shoppers.
