Filming for the fifth season of the hit FX show “The Americans” took place in Bayside last week. Streets were shut down as the cameras rolled along 39th Avenue in front of Aperitif Bistro.

The Emmy-nominated television series star Keri Russel and Matthew Rhys as Russian KGB spies in 1980s American suburbia. The two play Phillip and Elizabeth Jennings, a married couple who have been planted in the United States to start a family and gather intelligence on the West. The characters struggle between raising kids and growing loyalty conflicts with the Soviet Union.

The marriage was arranged by their Soviet spymasters, but as the show progresses, Phillip’s and Elizabeth’s passion for one another grows into a genuine romance. Their two children have no knowledge of their parents’ true identity. Philip works with the FBI as one of his many covers and deals with a number of informants within the bureau who circulate information his way.

Noah Emmerich plays Stan Beeman, an FBI agent and the Jennings’ next door neighbor.

Their two children are played by Holly Taylor and Keidrich Sellati.

The network announced the show would draw to a close after the sixth season, the fifth season being just the beginning of the end, according to Variety.

Roadways on 39th Avenue between 215th Street and Bell Boulevard and 39th Avenue between Bell Boulevard and 213th Street were closed.
