Cops slapped the cuffs on a Jamaica man after he hit an 82-year-old woman with his car just steps away from her home in Jackson Heights, police announced on Feb. 1.

According to police, at 1:43 p.m. on Jan. 5, officers from the 115th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck at Northern Boulevard and 90th Street. Upon their arrival, police found 82-year-old Myriam Nino, who lived on Northern Boulevard, lying in the roadway with head trauma.

A preliminary investigation found that Nino was crossing Northern Boulevard from south to north within the crosswalk area when a 2002 grey Toyota Corolla, which was operated by 22-year-old Lance Timote, of 166th St. in Jamaica, was approaching the intersection on 90th Street. As Timote was turning right onto Northern Boulevard, he struck Nino with his front bumper.

Nino was thrown to the ground after being hit, causing her head to be hit on the pavement.

EMS responded to the scene and transported Nino to Elmhurst Hospital. Nino later succumbed to her injuries and died on Jan. 20.

Timote was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
