If there’s a more interesting way for a building to draw attention than a massive Pop Art-inspired mural stretching 50 feet high on its exterior, we haven’t thought of it yet.
But a huge painted mural is not the only reason why buyers from Manhattan and Long Island City have been drawn to Canvas, the new 14-story condo building at 42-83 Hunter Street in Long Island City.
Agents at Modern Spaces tell us it’s the vented kitchens, radiant heated floors in the bathroom, and the privacy — there are only two units on each floor.
The Long Island City building features mostly one-bedroom units, including a one-bedroom convertible duplex on the ground floor with a backyard, as well as a three-bedroom penthouse.
Each unit features wood flooring and California Closets. Kitchens include wood cabinetry, Caesarstone countertops, Samsung refrigerators, and Bosch gas ranges and dishwashers. In the bathroom, there’s porcelain tile, Kohler toilets, sinks, bathtubs, shower fixtures, and those radiant heated floors.

Oh, and the muralist? The work of New York City-based mixed media artist JoJo Anavim, which critics compare to Warhol and Lichtenstein, hangs in museums, hotels, and private collections — Seth McFarlane, Amare Stoudemire and Daymond John are just a few of his notable collectors. In addition to the exterior mural, there’s also an Anavim in the lobby.
In Court Square, foodies will be satisfied with the local delicacies, with Michelin-rated restaurants Casa Enrique and M. Wells Steakhouse nearby. Artisanal coffee and cocktails can be found at Etto Espresso Bar and Dutch Kills, respectively.
There’s plenty more art nearby too. MoMA PS1 and the Noguchi Museum are within walking distance, and you can also stroll through Gantry Plaza State Park and its fishing piers and running paths.
Of course, being in LIC means you’re never far from the N/W/R, 7, E, and M subway lines, as well as the G.
Homes with one to three bedrooms start at $685,000. All sales and marketing are being handled by Modern Spaces, and occupancy begins in April.
