A would-be bandit in Forest Hills made a quick wardrobe change after his bid to rob a bank went wrong on Tuesday morning, police said.
The failed caper occurred at 11:05 a.m. on May 22 at the First Central Savings Bank located at 71-66 Austin St.
Law enforcement sources said the suspect walked into the branch wearing a blue-and-white hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and blue sneakers and approached the counter. He then presented to the teller a note demanding cash.
When the bank employee took too long to fulfill the demand, authorities said, the suspect got fed up and fled the scene empty-handed. The bank reported the incident to the 112th Precinct.
During an investigation, detectives obtained security camera footage taken shortly after the attempted robbery that shows the suspect wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, gray pants and black shoes.
Police concluded that he had changed his clothing sometime after fleeing the bank; he was last seeing heading on foot westbound along Austin Street.
Cops described the suspect as a white man between 30 and 40 years of age, standing 6 feet tall and having a mustache.
