Fire marshals are investigating the cause of a four-alarm blaze that broke out late on Sunday night in Elmhurst and lasted into the early hours of Monday morning.
According to the Fire Department, the inferno ignited at about 11:20 p.m. on May 27 on the upper floors of the seven-story building on 41st Avenue between 80th and 81st streets.
The flames quickly spread throughout the seventh floor and cockloft of the building, causing flames to shoot out of windows and the roof, lighting up the sky.
Scores of firefighters and officers from the 110th Precinct responded to the scene. WPIX-TV reported that nine firefighters suffered injuries while battling the blaze.
The FDNY brought the fire under control at about 1:20 a.m. on May 28, Fire Department sources said.
