In commemoration of the Mid-Autumn Festival observed across east and southeast Asia, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards hosted an inaugural celebration with local elected officials and community members at Queens Borough Hall on Thursday, Sept. 1.

Richards’ celebration featured performances, interactive cultural activities and the serving of traditional mooncakes. The Mid-Autumn Festival marks the fall harvest season with family gatherings and shared meals.

Co-sponsors of the event included Congresswoman Grace Meng; Senator John Liu; Councilwomen Julie Won, Linda Lee and Sandra Ung; Healthfirst; Garden of Hope; the Korean American Family Service Center; Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York; International Buddhist Progress Society; and Hanfu NYC.

“It was a pleasure to host our first Mid-Autumn Festival in partnership with Congress member Grace Meng, State Senator John Liu and Council members Julie Won, Linda Lee and Sandra Ung,” Richards said. “This festival, celebrated across Asia to mark the fall harvest season, is all about coming together and sharing meals, and that’s exactly what we did with hundreds of community members who joined us at Borough Hall.”
