Two former commanding officers who oversaw the NYPD 104th Precinct were honored last week by the 104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol for their contributions to the Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale neighborhoods.
Deputy Inspector Kevin Coleman, reassigned to the 109th Precinct in Flushing last year, and Inspector Victoria Perry, who departed the precinct to work in Community Affairs in 2020, visited the 104 COP’s monthly meeting on Thursday, Apr. 11, and received customized street signs to commemorate their time with the Precinct.
Elizabeth Delacruz, president of 104COP, shared how the two former commanding officers made the group feel part of the larger 104th Precinct family. Their attention to their lives, she noted, made a difference.
Delacruz recalled a letter sent to her by Coleman after her mother’s death. In the letter, Coleman wrote, “You are part of the 104 family,” which deeply resonated with her during a difficult time in her life.
Coleman emphasized the importance of the 104COP continuing its efforts, where its members volunteer their time and are active in the community. “It truly makes a difference,” Coleman said, according to minutes shared by 104COP.
Perry also brought attention to the group by adding there is something special about the 104th Precinct that doesn’t simply go away. “The partnership here is like no other,” Perry said, in what 104COP recorded in its minutes.
The civilian patrol also held a moment of silence for Detective Jonathan E. Diller, who died in the line of duty in March.
