Throgs Neck Bridge lane closures for six weekends this summer

BY MAUREEN MULLARKEY

One Queens-bound lane and several Bronx-bound lanes on the Throgs Neck Bridge are scheduled to close this weekend.

The closures will begin on Friday, July 10 through Monday, July 13, and will continue for at least six, non-consecutive weekends.

The purpose of the closures are to replace a total of 75,000 square-feet of binder and asphalt overlay, according to the MTA.

“The least impact to customers is to do the work on weekends and overnight when traffic is lighter,” said Throgs Neck Facility Engineer Edmond Knightly.

This summer, one Bronx-bound lane will be closed 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. A second Bronx-bound land will be closed on Friday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and on Sunday and Monday nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. A Queens-bound lane will also be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday.

Similar work has been done using the same weekend and overnight closures on the Queens-bound roadway. Motorists can use the Bronx-Whitestone or the Robert F. Kennedy bridges as an alternate route.

Motorists can sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts at www.mta.info and check the Bridges and Tunnels homepage or Facebook page for the latest information on this planned work.
