A Queens Village psychiatric center will host an event to help raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

Creedmoor Psychiatric Center will host a “Community Education Day” at its Queens Village campus, located at 79-25 Winchester Blvd., on Oct. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. During the event, members of the psychiatric community will educate members of the community about the many aspects of mental health.

“By involving residents of Queens Village in a discussion about mental wellness, recovery from mental illness and the importance of psychiatric care, we hope to raise awareness, foster inclusion and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health,” said Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan.

The event will feature a panel of experts in the fields of psychiatry, medicine, social work, nutrition, pastoral services and peer support. Each panelist will discuss the role that their field’s contributions to mental health and recovery while educating the public about maintaining their mental wellness by incorporating mental health treatment, physical health, nutrition, spirituality and community support.

“This is a new day at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. We are eager to work closely with our community including residents and service providers,” said Dr. Martha Adams-Sullivan, Creedmoor Psychiatric Center’s executive director. “We look forward to what will be an annual event here on our campus.”
