Flushing Town Hall hosts world-class talent

The opening act, at 8 p.m., will be the acclaimed Valerie Capers Quartet.

Capers, a gifted pianist, has recorded for the Atlantic and Columbia labels, and gigged with the Jazz royalty of Mongo Santamaria, Ray Brown, James Moody, Max Roach and Dizzy Gillespie, to name a few.

The main event of the evening kicks off with the versatile songstress Gloria Lynne. Lynne, on tour, returns to Queens for fans at FTH after a hugely successful gig for a capacity crowd earlier in the spring at York College. Beginning at age 15 on the stage of the Apollo Theater, her career has spanned much of the later 20th century, and her base of fans continues to grow because of her beautifully distinctive voice with showstoppers like
