Minor Division
Valle Tile and Marble 9, VI Pizza 4. For Valle Tile, Bryan Wasserman smashed a two-run homer and Lionel Morales hit a tape-measure triple. For VI Pizza, Charles Lampert had two solid hits and Sean Monses had a hit and an outstanding play in the field.
Valle Tile and Marble 6, Party City 0. For Valle Tile, Brian Rafferty had a single and double, while Lionel Morales smashed a long triple. Michael Keen also pitched six strong innings for the win. Rob Romano pitched a strong game for Party City and Alex Golamites played superb defense.
Valle Tile and Marble 4, Centa Plumbing 3. For Valle Tile Michael Keen had a double and triple, while Dillon Kraus stole five bases and got the save. For Centa Dennis Pruden had a hit and an outstanding play in the field and Alex Chako had a couple of hits.
Unique Finishes vs. York Electric. Alec Sullivan hit two more mammoth home runs to lead his team. Alex Weiner and Thomas O’Brien also contributed with three hits each and are coming along very well in the field both making put outs.
Major Homes 5, James Engravers 4. In a hard-fought division game, Major Homes pulled it out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chris Wong went 2-for-3 with a game-winning home run. Rob Klein had two hits and three well pitched innings giving his team a chance to win. For James Engravers, Cal Stiernik threw fireballs from the mound for all six innings.
Major Homes 16, Valle Tile 1. For Major Homes Joey Rizzo wielded a hot bat, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Mike Beringer also swung a hot bat, with a double and two singles and three RBIs. Valle Tile’s James O’Brien pitched three solid innings. Lionel Morales also had a key hit.
Major Homes 15, Bell Bay Florist 4. For Major Homes Daniel Valenza proved his baseball skills by getting on base and scoring two runs. Guy Benbensti also scored a run and played flawless defense. For Bell Bay Florist Kiern Mahoney flashed the leather at second base and Santiago Salazar had a good pitching outing.
James Engravers 10, Valle Tile and Marble 1. Philip Jermoloultz was 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and a walk in the later innings to lead James Engravers past Valle Tile and Marble, 10-1. Matthew Diaz had a key sliding catch in the outfield to retire opposing team in the first inning. Jason Shervanick was solid at third base and had an RBI in the fifth inning. Valle Tile & Marble was led by the strong pitching by Michael Keen in first four innings and Matthew Valle, whose double in fourth inning scored a run.
Major Division
F. Nicholson Law 10, Stabile and Stabile CPA’s 5. Young June Lee and Peter Regan combined efforts on the mound for Nicholson and stumped the CPAs. Ricky Monahan went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to provide the offense for the victors. For Stabile, Robert Larusso hit a towering solo home run in the first inning ñ his second of the season and lead-off batter Peter Scianna went 2-for-3 knocking in two RBIs.
F. Nicholson Law 16, C. J. Wolfhounds 6. The Law handed the Hounds its second loss of the season with an offensive charge led by Peter Regan’s Grand Slam. Brian Meo also contributed a 3-for-4 day at the plate and scored three runs for “The Law.”
Biordi Construction 16, F. Nicholson Law 8. Spiros Cominos picked up the win for Biordi going 4-for-4, collecting a double and a triple to just miss hitting for he cycle. Biordi’s Danny Perry hit a pair of doubles, as the trio of George Rowen, Mike Biordi, and Joe Catalanotto all scored three times. F. Nicholson’s Jimmy Keen had a fine day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double though his team lost.
Lloyd’s Funeral Home vs. Bayside Plumbing. Sun Ho Kim pitched a six-inning complete game for the “Home,” while teammates Michael Canfarotta contributed a single and a double, and Gerard Cash drove in three RBIs. For the Plumbers, Sal Rongo struck out 14, and Louis Fevola singled, and provided outstanding defense in the field.
Applebee’s of Bayside 18, Stabile and Stabile 4. Applebee’s was led by some great hitting from Christopher Palamara, who was 2-for-2 with a couple of RBIs, Brian Capozzi continued his hot streak, going 2-for-3, and Tim Doepfner had a long three-run homer over the center-field fence. Chris Hamm and Mike Karcinski pitched well for the Bee’s in their 18-4 win. Stabile’s Robert Larusso had a good game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a towering two-run homer.
Biordi Construction 7, Stabile and Stabile 5. Richard Riccardi pitched three strong innings and reliever Roger Pfeffer picked up the victory for Biordi. Michael Biordi went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Paul Casano, John Dellafiore and Roger Pfeffer each had two-hit games for the “Constructioners.” George Rowen’s debut at catcher included a tag-out at the plate, preventing the tying run from scoring. Stabile’s Frankie Davi showed some range in center field, making a running catch of a ball hit in the gap between right and center. Later Davi picked up his second outfield assist of the season, throwing out a runner at the plate.
F. Nicholson Law 6, Murphy’s Florist 4. Nicky Athanosopoulos pitched four innings in relief for “The Law”, keeping the game close. The Nicholson team was then able to score five times in the fifth inning to go ahead for good. Nicholson’s, Alex Silverberg went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
PeeWee Division
Mittman’s Medics vs. Mensch Lumber. Everyone on Mensch Lumber had two big hits. The stars for Mittman’s Medics were Jonathan Rosoff, who was alert in the field and made many key stops, and Adam Mittman showed much improvement at the plate and hit the ball well.
Mittman’s Medics vs. Depot Furniture. Mittman’s Medics played a great game. Corey Still stayed sharp in the field and threw out several hitters at first. Offensively, Keith Rosengarten pounded the ball and got two extra base hits. The stars of the game for Depot Furniture were Steven Rufo, who flashed some fancy leather in the field, and Nicholas Danziger, who came up with big hit after big hit.
Mario’s Vineotheque vs. A&A Plumbing. Everyone on A&A Plumbing played a super game on this two-game set. Mark Pagano displayed an awesome all-around in the first game for Mario’s Vineotheque. The hitting stars for the second game for Mario’s were Mark Cannelos and Grace Zottig.
Texas Division
Clearview Paint vs. Fader Law. These two teams tangled in a very well played game, which Clearview held on to win. Kenny Marzocco delivered a key bases-loaded triple to stake Clearview to an early lead. Thomas O’Byrne’s two-out, bases-loaded double plated three runs for Clearview late in the game, sealing the win. Danny Wagner’s three hits and Patrick Jordan’s pitching helped Clearview maintain the lead.
Biordi Construction 2, Headlines 1. This well-played game had all-star caliber performances by several players with Biordi Construction pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 2-1 victory over Headlines. Biordi’s Sam Rowen came through with the winning RBI after Sam Gussak led off the bottom of the sixth with a triple. Headlines took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth led by the offensive heroics of Dominic Formato (3-for-3, one double), three shutout innings of pitching by Tommy Monte and great defense by Tony Davi. Second baseman Anthony Scianna’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth tied the game at 1-1 and center fielder Nicky Burns game saving catch kept the scored tied and set up the thrilling finish for Biordi. Frankie Biordi was perfect in his three innings of work for Biordi, striking out seven while walking just one batter to keep Headlines big bats in check. Equally as impressive was Gussak who earned the win by striking out five batters of his own in relief.
Biordi Construction 11, K of C Joyce Kilmer 6. Biordi Construction made it two in a row with an 11-6 win over K of C Joyce Kilmer. The Biordi bats were booming led by Sam Gussak (5-for-5, five RBIs), Anthony Scianna (3-for-5, three RBIs), Thomas Karcinski (2-for-2, double and an RBI), Sam Rowen (2-for-3, two RBIs) Nicky Maccia (2-for-4, four RBIs), Leo Gussak (2-for 4, three RBIs) and Matt Goldfine (2-for-2, 3 runs, two RBIs). K of C Joyce Kilmer was led by Jonathan Benussi (3-for-3), Ben Siegel (2-for-3) and Brian Wren (2-for-2). Biordi’s Nicky Burns got the win on the mound striking out eight batters while S. Gussak and Goldfine combined for the save.
Bayside Milk Farm 8, Bourbon Street 7. The Bayside Milk Farm Cowboys held off a game Bourbon Street squad with a come-from-behind 8-7 win. The Cowboys were led by Nick DelGaudio’s bases-clearing triple led the comeback with two outs and the bases loaded in the final inning. Pitchers Justis Bosco and Vincent Diasparra were able to keep Bourbon Streets bats in check combining for six strong innings of work for the victory. Bourbon Street was led by the hitting prowess of Joe Vitti who belted a towering home run to center field and finished the game with four RBIs.
Hatton Funeral Home 6, Clearview Paint 4. John Sudolsky’s pitching and Steven Arroyo's defense led the charge for Hatton Funeral Home in their 6-4 win over Clearview Paint. Patrick Rifino and Kenny Marzocco combined to play great defense for Clearview Paint in defeat, helping to record eight put outs in a superbly played game.
Hatton Funeral Home 7, Fader Law 3. Joe Jensen and Robert Goger supplied great run production in a well played win resulting in a 7-3 final against Fader Law. Fader Law was led by Eric Marinconz and Nicholas Manetta who both performed admirably at bat and in the field to keep the game close.
North Shore Baptist 5, Hatton Funeral Home 1. A great pitching duel between Adam Huer and Chris Lundgren resulted in a well played 5-1 contest as North Shore Baptist held off Hatton Funeral Home. North Shore was led by the pitching of Huer and the offense of Parker Moore (two RBIs) while Lundgren’s mound presence and Matt Ng scored the lone run and played great defense for Hatton.
