National Night Out, a citywide annual event designed to promote community activities as a way to fight crime and keep neighborhoods safe, is back in Queens and the borough’s police precincts have planned a variety of festivities.
The Aug. 6 program gives officers and residents in each precinct the chance to mingle. The public is encouraged to attend, and events are expected to be held rain or shine.
National Night Out events are listed below by precinct.
• The 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill has teamed up with the Richmond Hill East Business Persons Corp. to present their Night Out Against Crime, which will be held on Jamaica Avenue beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Police will close the avenue to traffic from 122nd Street to 124th Street from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Officers will be on hand to discuss crime prevention techniques and recruit volunteers for the Auxiliary unit.
• The 103rd Precinct in Jamaica is planning to join the 103rd Precinct Community Council and Jamaica Services for Older Adults for National Night Out from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The event will be held at Rufus King Park at 153rd Street and Jamaica Avenue and will feature free food, music, crime prevention information, and the presentation of the annual Police Officer Charles A. Davis Award.

• The 104th Precinct is partnering with the Catalpa YMCA and Kiwanis to provide live entertainment and family fun with rides, food and free giveaways.
The event will be held between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. in front of the precinct at 64-02 Catalpa Ave. in Ridgewood. For more information, call the precinct at 386-2446.
• The 105th Precinct in Queens Village will join Nassau County’s 5th Precinct, the state police and MTA police for a “backyard picnic” at Belmont Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The park is at Hempstead Avenue and the Cross Island Parkway, Gate 5.
The night will include food, a disc jockey, free VIN etching, the NYPD Mounted Unit, information, a playground area for children, child seat safety checks and information on low-cost health insurance.
The night will be alcohol free and coolers will be checked.
• The 106th Precinct in Ozone Park will hold its event in Police Officer Nicholas Demutiis Park adjacent to the precinct on Liberty Avenue between 101st and 102nd streets from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m..
Special divisions of the Police and Fire Departments will be on hand to display their equipment and answer questions.
Representatives from the Auxiliary and Explorer units will attend with recruitment information. A special proclamation ceremony involving community and elected officials will take place at 7:30 p.m. For more information call the community affairs division at 845-2228.
• The 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows is kicking off its Night Out Against Crime at the Electchester Shopping Center parking lot on Parsons Boulevard between 71st Avenue and Jewel Avenue. The group will walk east on Jewel Avenue, turn south on 164th Street, and west on 71st Avenue back to the shopping center. Before and after the walk, a swing band will perform and there will be games, free barbecue and soda.
• The 108th Precinct will have a disc jockey, face painting, balloons, games and child fingerprinting.
The event will take place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Thompson Hill Park on 43rd Street and Greenpoint Avenue in Sunnyside. For more information, call the precinct at 784-5420.
• The 109th Precinct in Flushing will hold its National Night Out festivities at PS 20 at 142-30 Barclay Ave. from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Martial arts demonstrations and other performances will highlight the 109th Precinct’s National Night Out.

• The 111th Precinct in Bayside was slated to host its 2002 National Night Out events from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Douglaston Plaza Shopping Center.
Information on the precinct’s crime prevention programs will be available, including VIN etchings, bike registrations, block watchers and free home security surveys among others.

• The 112th Police Precinct in Forest Hills will hold its National Night Out Against Crime Tuesday at MacDonald Park at the corner of Queens Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A country pop band will perform at the event where police officers will give citizens crime prevention tips. Children can learn about fingerprinting and there will be clowns and balloons for all kids. For more information call the precinct at 520-9312.
• The 113th Precinct in Jamaica is planning to join the 113th Precinct Community Council and the Friends of Baisley Pond Park for National Night Out from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The event will be held at Baisley Pond Park, at 156th Street and Baisley Boulevard and will feature free food, music, and crime prevention information.

• The 114th Precinct is going all out with dozens of information tables featuring local community groups and social services as well as performances and rides.
An exhibit by the Greater Astoria Historical Society will show what the area looked like years ago, and the table for New Yorkers Against Gun Violence will be filled with the last pair of shoes worn by people killed by gunfire.
The event will be held between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Variety Boys and Girls Club at 30th Road and 21st Street in Astoria. For more information, call the 114th Precinct at 626-9327.
