Murder & Mayhem Jealous Man Kills One And Abducts Daughter

An 11-hour manhunt to find a North Carolina man who had abducted his daughter and fatally shot his ex-lovers current boyfriend in Richmond Hill ended on a subway platform in Greenwich Village Saturday night, according to police.
The day-long ordeal began that morning when Hope Perkins of South Ozone Park agreed to meet with her ex-boyfriend Jeff Mitchell on the corner of 103rd Avenue and 103rd Street so he could see his three-year-old daughter, Destiny. Since arriving in New York last Tuesday, Mitchell had been staying around the corner from the destination at Overtons social club.
According to police, Mitchell had been angered the night before when he came looking for Perkins and her four daughters and learned they were staying at the home of her current boyfriend, James Young, 40. When Young accompanied Perkins and her daughter in a mini-van to the meet-up spot, Mitchell again became jealous and erratic. Perkins got out of the car to argue with him. Mitchell then brandished a .25 caliber gun and fired numerous shots, striking Young in the torso while he sat in the car, killing him instantly. Mitchell then abducted his daughter and fled the scene. The police were notified and a boroughwide search began, with an Amber Alert an information system that notifies residents throughout the state of a kidnapping by radio and highway electronic signs being issued.
Police searched the entire day for Michell and were finally able to determine his location while interviewing his cousin who was staying at a homeless shelter. Mitchell called his cousins cellphone during the interview, and an officer was able to persuade him to give his location. Mitchell told police that he was with his daughter at the West 4th Street subway stop in Greenwich Village. Police were dispatched and he was arrested.
Destiny was taken to St. Vincents Hospital, where her mother met her. Police said Destiny was in excellent condition. According to police, Mitchell had one previous arrest. He was charged with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Perkins and Young, an electrician, had been dating one another for a few months.
