Edison Students Get What They Deserve

Now that the school year is winding down, its time to honor exemplary students throughout Queens. At Thomas A. Edison Vocational & Technical High School in Jamaica, 126 exceptional students were recently honored for their hard work as they were inducted into the schools chapter of the National Honor Society, bringing the total number of members in the group to 296. To help celebrate, the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard participated in the induction ceremony.
According to group advisor Robert Ferri, this is the largest number of simultaneous inductees in the history of the school. The National Honor Society honors those students who have an average of at least 85, good attendance and one teacher recommendation. New members must also regularly participate in volunteer activities within the community. During the ceremony, Ferri announced that some of the National Honor Society members had recently participated in AIDS Walk New York and raised over $1,000. Participants included Jaime Villamaria, Shari Rampersaud, Umadas Rajendra, Kevin Singh, Ashikuzzman Idrisy, Muhamad Sadiya, Lyle DeKaye and Joseph Puran.
The Edison National Honor Society executive board includes president Gary Ng, vice president Bryan Lozano, secretary Jamie Villamaria, treasurer Yogamattie Rampersaud and parliamentarian Garret Frey.
At the conclusion of the induction ceremony, there was a light dinner in the schools cafeteria. This dinner, coordinated by the student activities advisor Gary Burly, is a first for Edison.
