Howard Beach Attack Takes New Twist

Nearly two weeks after the Howard Beach bias attack in which Glenn Moore was brutally beaten, one of his friends has been arrested for robbing an 18-year-old in Brooklyn.
Richard Wood, who was among the three that were allegedly chased down by Nicholas “Fat Nick” Minucci and Anthony Ench, was arraigned on charges of robbery in the first degree, weapons possession and grand larceny for stealing Andy Orellana’s $375 gold chain, bus ticket and wallet. He also tried to take a pair of sneakers — much like in the Howard Beach attack — but was unable to.
Frantic at his arrest, Wood called hate crime officers working on the Howard Beach case in an alleged attempt to evade charges in his current bust.
And although the two cases are otherwise unrelated, sources are saying that Wood’s arrest may throw a monkey wrench into the prosecution’s case against Minucci and Ench.
“We must draw a line and say that no community supports lawbreakers,” said Councilman James Sanders.
Woods, who also goes by the alias “Richard Walker,” is currently on parole for weapons possession.
He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail and is not allowed to be near the victim.
Wood’s unnamed accomplice in the crime is still at large.
According to his step-father, Moore is to be released from Jamaica Hospital next week.
