New Senior Complex Planned For Jamaica

A new $36 million luxury apartment complex for seniors complete with medical facilities is set to open within the next two and a half years in Jamaica.
The complex, named Skyline Commons, will offer 146 apartments ranging in price from $2,700 to $5,000 a month and cost residents an entrance fee of $250,000 to $700,000. The largest apartments in the complex will be 1,300 square feet with an 800-square-foot terrace, and up to 296 residents and 120-person staff will fill the facility.
“What’s great about this facility is that the full continuum of care gives seniors the ability to age in place,” said Maureen Anderson, vice president of marketing for New Life Management & Development, Inc.
Should a resident need additional medical attention, full-time care will be provided within the confines of the apartment complex and without a raise in their rent. A total of 19 assisted living facilities will be available within the complex.
“We also have an array of amenities right on campus … just about everything one could want in a community,” Anderson said.
Fees cover rent, maintenance fees, and full-time medical care in addition to one meal per day. Skyline Commons will feature a gourmet restaurant, a bistro, a day spa, a fitness center, a small theater, a rooftop garden, and an Internet cafe. Concierge and valet parking service will be available to residents, all of who must be over the age of 62 to live in the facility.
Skyline Commons will be built within the Queens Hospital Center in Jamaica in Building T, a 10-story building, portions of which are used for HHC administrative offices and outpatient clinic and psychiatric services. The rest of the building is currently unused and will be extensively renovated to accommodate the new facility.
Anderson called interest in the facility “tremendous.”
“We’ve had over 600 seniors reach out and attend an information session,” she said, adding that for $1000, seniors can reserve a specific apartment to meet their needs.
Skyline Commons is an affiliate of the Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which as the sole member of MTC Senior Housing, Inc., partnered with New Life Management & Development, Inc. to develop the facility.
