‘Day Dreamz’ becomes a nightmare

Costa Colombiana Sports Club Inc., known as “Day Dreamz,” a bar located at 146-14 Hillside Avenue, lost their liquor license due to allegations of on-site prostitution and weapons possession.
The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) immediately suspended the license on Wednesday, May 3 following an undercover investigation by the New York City Police Department and the division of Alcohol and Beverage Control’s Rapid Response Unit. After a full board meeting, the SLA determined that “the bar posed an imminent threat to the public.”
“Effective immediately, no alcohol can be served or consumed on the premises,” said Joshua B. Toas, Chief Executive Officer of SLA. “The SLA will not tolerate any bar that permits criminal activity on premises.”
According to police, several complaints had been filed against the bar. On February 24, 2006, an undercover NYPD officer was offered sex for money. A follow up operation lead to the arrest of eight female employees, the owner and a security guard who faces weapons charges. The case was refereed to the SLA by the office of Queens District Attorney Dick Brown.
“We are committed to working with Queens communities and government agencies to eliminate crime and business practices that promote criminal activity, such as prostitution,’ said Brown. “I commend the SLA for its prompt action in revoking this establishment’s liquor license.”
The REU was established this past April under orders from Governor George Pataki and is charged with conducting priority investigations and enforcing immediate disciplinary action.
