Try all Queens has to offer

Borough President Helen Marshall and the Queens Economic Development Corporation have named May “Spring Into Queens” month in order to promote tourism in the borough. People from the other boroughs are being invited to experience everything that Queens has to offer.
The celebration will give people plenty of reasons to sample the various cultural organizations throughout Queens as well as the restaurants and stores that will be offering special discounts or promotions.
Just a few of the activities scheduled to take place in May are:
On Saturday, May 6, “Soh Daiko: Japanese Taiko Drummers” will perform at 2 p.m. at the Kupferberg Center. Barbara Cook will also perform May 6 at 8 p.m.
At 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, the Queens Historical Society will give a slide presentation entitled “Historic Buildings of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.”
On Friday, May 12, Joseito Mateo will be at the LaGuardia Center for Performing Arts at 8 p.m. as part of Performance Planet 2006.
The Queens Symphony Orchestra will be at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 13, at 7 p.m.
Thalia Spanish Theatre will present the collection of romantic Latin songs “Boleros: A Tres Voces” On Saturday, May 20, at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, May 21, the Oratorio Society of Queens will perform at The Performing Arts Center at Queensborough Community College at 4 p.m.
Other organizations taking part in Spring Into Queens include: Flushing Town Hall; The Lewis H. Latimer House Museum; Louis Armstrong House Museum; New York Hall of Science; Poppenhusen Institute; Queens Botanical Garden; Queens Museum of Art; Queens Zoo; Alley Pond Environmental Center; Dorsky Gallery; Fisher Landau Center for Art; Museum for African Art; Museum of Moving Image; The Noguchi Museum; P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center; Queens County Farm Museum; Sculpture Center; Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, and King Manor Museum.
Participating retail stores are April Glass; Dazies Restaurant; Family Pharmacy; Flagship Entertainment Center; Lowery’s Wine Factory Outlet Store; Pure Spa & Salon; Quant Restaurant, and Pets Unlimited.
