Queens is a happening place

To jump-start the festivities of the Discover Queens celebration in August, our very own New York Mets will be hosting a Queens Night at Shea Stadium on Friday, August 4, where the Mets will be playing against the Philadelphia Phillies. Fans can witness a sneak preview of the events, performances, and activities to come in August.
&#8220Visit Queens … See the World!” is the mantra of Queens Borough President Helen Marshall.
With the thrilling New York Mets baseball games at Shea Stadium; phenomenal tennis matches at the U.S. Open; the New York Kite Festival in the Rockaways; the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival on Meadow Lake; performances at the JP Morgan Chase Latino Cultural Festival at the Queens Theatre in the Park; the Jamaica Arts and Music Summer Jams Festival; remarkable music; cultural festivals; and street fairs, there's no better time to discover Queens than right now.
&#8220Queens is the place to be,” said Marshall, enthusiastically.
Many of these August events will take place in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Additionally, Marshall pointed out that the New York Hall of Science; Queens Museum of Art, Queens Zoo, and Queens Botanical Garden attractions are open to guests throughout the year.
&#8220Over one million people attend events in Queens that happen in August and we want to get the word out so an additional half-a-million people join in the fun this year,” said Marshall. &#8220Visitors are good for the economy of our borough, our city, and our state. Queens wants to do its share to help Mayor Bloomberg reach his goal of 50 million visitors in New York City by the year 2015,” she added.
