PSAL SOCCER ROUNDUP – Lewis, Aviation rising to top of divisions

When Francis Lewis dropped a 3-1 decision to Cardozo September 20, the Judges seemed to be a good bet to dethrone the two-time Queens-A-West champions. Since then, however, the Patriots have reeled off five straight wins and a tie against Cardozo, putting them atop the division once again.
In their latest victory, an 8-0 throttling of John Bowne, John Koutsounadis and Edwin Lozano each scored two goals for Francis Lewis (8-1-1). Cardozo (6-1-3), meanwhile, fell to Bayside, their first league loss of the year, 3-0. With just two regular season games remaining, the Patriots are surprisingly in control.
In Queens-A-West, Aviation and Long Island City are neck and neck, thanks to the Bulldogs' recent 3-2 win. Brayan Roman and Cesar Navarrete each scored in the loss.
With just two crossover games remaining, Aviation, who finished third a season ago, is in charge. The Flyers (7-1-1) and their top scorer Giorgio Ferrara (division-leading 12 goals) face winless John Bowne (0-9-1) while the Bulldogs (6-1-2) finish up with an ever-improving Flushing (5-4-1) squad.
