Flushing, located in northern Queens, is one of the borough's most populous and diverse areas giving its residents the opportunity to experience all aspects of life.
Flushing is known for being a transportation hub at Roosevelt Avenue and Main Street with access to the No. 7 train directly into Manhattan, the Long Island Rail Road and many New York City bus routes that travel within the borough. However, it also provides many other advantages to residents who live in the area.
&#8220You have the shopping, the transportation, the railroad, easy access to everywhere the City and Long Island,” said RE/MAX Universal Real Estate representative Ann Folan.
Although the area is an epicenter for transportation and travel, other parts of the neighborhood give off a different feel.
&#8220It's near everything, yet at the same time, it is a very residential area,” said Debbie L. Orlich from East Coast Realtors.
Orlich said that another very attractive feature of the Flushing area is the quality schools that are present within District 25 and 26 giving parents a place where they can send their children and know they are receiving a top-notch education.
Paul Halvatzis of Amorelli Realty, who has lived in the Flushing area for more than 40 years, described the neighborhood in a similar way.
&#8220You have the suburban living in Queens,” he said.
Halvatzis said that one of the biggest draws to the area is the beautiful parks including Kissena and Bowne Park, where he and his wife enjoy walking at night. He said that oftentimes you could find people playing tennis, riding their bikes or just going out for a jog.
&#8220It's definitely an area where you would feel safe,” Halvatzis said.
According to statistics from the 109th Precinct, which covers most of the Flushing area, crime has decreased by more than 35 percent over the past five years, and more than 70 percent over the past 13 years.
Like many other areas throughout the borough, finding a house to buy in Flushing will not come cheap. Halvatzis said that many of the smaller houses' starting prices are upward of $500,000 with some of the larger homes totaling nearly $1,000,000.
