Reward offered for park punks

The civil rights organization, 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of two suspects in what police suspect is a string of robberies and muggings that culminated in the critical beating of an unidentified Asian man in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Christmas Day.
Police at the 110th Precinct have increased surveillance in the park. According to Detective Carlos Neives of the New York Police Department (NYPD), there is a greater uniformed police presence in the park, in addition to increased undercover surveillance. Police have also deployed Sky Watch, a mobile observation tower which is staffed 24-hours-a-day.
A spokesperson at Elmhurst Hospital, said that neither police nor the hospital has been able to identify the beaten man despite his picture appearing in multiple media outlets including several Asian publications. The hospital has received only one inquiry about the man which turned out to be for a different missing Asian man. The victim's condition has not improved; he is in a coma and still listed as critical, even though some of his facial bruises and abrasions have begun to heal.
Despite news of the crime spree, the park area beneath the landmark Unisphere was populated by the usual cyclists, children and skateboarders recently.
Jasmine and Jessica Osorio, twins, and part of a group of nine cousins skateboarding at the site of the attack hadn't even heard about the muggings, but had noticed the police presence and guessed something had happened. &#8220It's still day time so I'm not concerned,” Jessica said. Her cousin Steve Culma, of Ozone Park, had heard about the muggings and had seen the photo of the unidentified victim in the media, &#8220You've got to be careful,” he said.
Police are now investigating whether the crime fits a robbery pattern in eight other brutal robberies that have taken place in the park and along 111th Street between 46th and 52nd Avenues in Corona since late November. All but one victim, the only woman, were assaulted at night. The perpetrators have so far been able to flee; in the last instance they were also on bikes.
Police have released an artist's sketch of one of the suspects but have not received any effective leads in the case. There are two primary suspects being sought. The first is described as a Hispanic male of light complexion, 18-25 years old, 5'8''-6'1,” weighing 150-170 lbs. and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect is also described as a Hispanic man with light complexion, a stocky build, and approximately 5'8'' tall.
Taking an active interest in the case, 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care consists of active and retired police officers and others in law enforcement.
The investigation of these robberies is ongoing and police have reached out to the public for help. Anyone with information about the attacks can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS
