Teen Shot In Robbery Attempt Charged

A teen shot in an altercation with an off-duty cop on January 28 is being charged with attempted third-degree robbery.
According to reports, Lieutenant Jose Jacome, a 16-year veteran, had been driving with his girlfriend through Jackson Heights when he saw two men beating and trying to rob a third in front of a store near 90th Street and 37th Avenue.
Jacome allegedly identified himself as an officer both in Spanish and English as the suspects fled.
He had caught up with one of the perps at 37th Avenue when 17-year-old Edwin Guaman allegedly threw a beer bottle at him and tried to wrestle away his pistol.
The gun fired, hitting Guaman in the chest. He is listed in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital.
The other suspect, 24, was later apprehended.

Police are looking for a number of suspects who allegedly injured a police lieutenant on January 20 at 34-38 38th Street.
