York earns conference awards

At the conclusion of a regular season which saw them win the CUNY Athletic Conference South Division and earn a top seed in the upcoming tournament, the York College basketball team earned kudos for their accomplishments.
In his 19th season, Coach Ronald St. John was named the CUNYAC Coach of the Year after winning his fifth regular-season title and topping a pair of top 20 teams in the Cardinals’ 15-10 campaign.
Leading scorer Jeffrey Boone, a 6-foot-3 senior who averaged 18.9 points per game, seven rebounds, and four assists, was named as the CUNYAC Player of the Year. The August Martin graduate notched seven double-doubles and was the ECAC Player of the Week from December 13 through January 2, along with being a four-time CUNYAC Player of the Week.
Center Dennis Echols was chosen for the All-CUNYAC First Team after averaging 17.9 points per game, third highest in the league.
“Once again York College is out front leading with outstanding achievements,” President Marcia V. Keizs said in a statement. “We’re very proud of our Athletic Department and the positive examples of competitiveness they exhibit to all our students.”
