Performers from the Dominico-American Society’s Salsa Music and Dance Group entertain a crowd of 500 at the first-ever “Corona Cares Day” in Corona Plaza, between 104th and National Streets and Roosevelt Avenue.
The “Heart of Corona Initiative,” a collaborative effort among the Queens Museum, local businesses and community-based organizations held the first of three scheduled celebrations on Saturday April 28. Similar festivals are planned for June 16 and September 15.
In addition to entertainment by performers and groups from Mexico, Colombia and other Spanish-speaking countries, the event, which ran from 11 a.m. until after 6 p.m., offered information and services in both Spanish and English from such groups as Elmhurst Medical Center, the Center for the Women of New York and the City’s Poison Control Center.
