Bowser plays the Assembly

Performer Jon &#8220Bowser” Bauman (left) an original member of the rock and roll/comedy group &#8220Sha Na Na,” hams it up with Assemblymember Mark Weprin in the Legislative Chamber in Albany during a recent visit.
Bauman grew up in Hollis Hills and attended P.S. 188, the Kingsbury School, and hopes to return there next year for a visit. Weprin has a son attending there, and another who just graduated from the school.
&#8220Bowser J. Bowser” was a central character in the group, which formed in 1969 while the members were attending Columbia University. They gained national fame after performing at the watershed Woodstock music festival and helped spark a 1950's nostalgia craze.
Sha Na Na had a nationally syndicated TV show from 1977 to 1982 and appeared in the movie &#8220Grease” in 1978, as &#8220Johnny Casino and the Gamblers.”
Bauman now tours with his own group, &#8220Bowser and the Stingrays.”
