Pool party to launch new Y program

Are you between the ages of 50 and 70? Do you want to have fun and meet new people? Then the Transition Center is the perfect place for you.
The Transition Center - a newly formed program of the Samuel Field Y, is an innovative program for all community members between the ages 50-70. The center provides social, recreational and educational activities for people whose lives are changing, or who are seeking to explore new horizons.
In order to introduce the center, a pool party and BBQ will be held on Tuesday, August 14, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. (or August 15, should it rain) at the Bay Terrace Pool & Tennis Center, 212-00 23rd Avenue, Bayside. Admission is $18 per person, or $30 for two.
This event, like other events hosted by the Transition Center, is for people between the ages 50-70. Ilene Yair, M.S. Gerontologist at the Transition Center, said that about 75 people are expected at the event. “The pool party is a kick-off event to introduce the Transition Center to the community and to tell more about the program.”
The pool party is expected to be successful since it will expose people to the center and to its other programs.
Other activities the center plans on hosting include monthly meetings in the evenings, starting in September, which will feature guest speakers.
The center’s trip program is planning trips to the east end of Long Island, including the Hamptons and a local winery on September 15 and 30, and one to the Culinary Institute of America on November 15.
The goal of the Transition Center, Ilene says, is to “help people make connections with the community; it’s for people experiencing changes in their lives because their children are growing up or they’re newly retired.” The center aims to connect people with similar lifestyles and hobbies so they can have fun and meet others.
