Mass to celebrate new school

Steve and Jennifer Pulick lead Divine Mercy Catholic Academy students in song during a mass Thursday, September 6 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Ozone Park. The mass represented the official unveiling of Divine Mercy, the product of a merger between Catholic schools Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr. Later, students presented Brooklyn Diocese vicar general Bishop Frank Caggiano, who led the mass, with a stole embroidered with Divine Mercy’s new logo. Sister Francis Marie Wystepek, Principal of Divine Mercy, said the school’s main challenge will be getting the community to view it as one entity, rather than the merger of two separate ones. “The students have done very well with that,” she said. “They’ve made new friends and done a great job mixing with one another.”
