Lake friends call it a season

The Friends of Oakland Lake and Ravine have been bringing together young and old to care for this aquatic gem in Alley Pond Park. They wrapped up this year’s campaign with a clean-up and bulb planting on Saturday, November 17.
Shown here with the organizers are participants from Auburndale’s Cub Scout Pack 75; honor students from Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village; students from Queensborough Community College’s “Liberty Partnerships Program” and neighborhood volunteers at the final event of the season in the group’s Youth Stewardship Program.
In addition to fine autumn weather, spectacular fall colors and a good feeling, participants received “The History and Ecology of Little Neck Bay” by Dr. Aline Euler of the Alley Pond Environmental Center, an educational primer on Little Neck Bay and the surrounding watershed, including Oakland Lake.
