Youth leads the way

Senior Patrol Leader Billy Vabrinskas (left) from Troop 142 of Bayside officiates at the opening of the last 2007 meeting of Community Board 11 (CB11), at M.S. 158 on Oceania Street in Bayside.
The scouts conducted the Presentation of the Flags, Pledge of Allegiance, and recited the Boy Scout Oath at the meeting, on Monday, December 3. The tradition was established by former CB11 chair Jerry Iannece (center).
Behind Vabrinskas, Patrol Leader Thomas Dougherty also recites the oath, as current chair Steve Newman and District Manager Susan Seinfeld observe.
“It is important that (the Scouts) observe and understand what public participation is all about,” Iannece said, adding, “so that when the reins of government are turned over to them, they will be prepared.”
Iannece is active with the Troop, whose good deeds will include graffiti removal in Bayside Hills in the near future, according to troop spokesperson David Risueno.
