A youth basketball team from south Queens was selected recently to represent New York and play against Japan’s All-Stars.
The Japan All-Stars consists of boys ages 12-14. They traveled to the U.S. to play two games against “New York’s All-Star Team” and “New Jersey’s All-Star Team.”
The NY All-Stars consist of a group of 11 players from five different parishes (St. Helen, Our Lady of Grace, Sacred Heart of Glendale, St. Pancras, and St Virgilius) which met up in CYO games and developed a bond. They go by the name “Queens Heat” and, coached by Sean Roberts from Our Lady of Grace, they play as an AAU team during the fall/winter/spring in addition to their respective CYO programs.
The games were set-up by the Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA and they were held at the New Jersey Nets Practice Facility in East Rutherford, N.J. on Saturday, January 5.
Besides the games, the kids had a great experience and got to meet the very talented young men from Japan. Both teams mingled and had fun with each other, even participating in skill competitions.
