The special commissioner of investigation for the New York City School District and the Queens district attorney announced Monday that Bradley Dieffenbacher, 32, had been arrested on the charge of use of a child in a sexual performance – a felony punishable by 15 years in prison – and related crimes.

An investigation conducted by the special commissioner's and district attorney's offices and the New York Police Department found that Dieffenbacher, who had been employed by the Department of Education since September 2000, had contact online with 12- and 13-year-old boys, directed them to pornographic Web sites and engaged in sexually explicit conversations with them, the special commissioner's office said.

Dieffenbacher also used a Web camera to observe at least one of his victims masturbating at the teacher's request, the special commissioner's office said.

Dieffenbacher resigned from his position effective Feb. 14 after being questioned by investigators from the special commissioner's office, the agency said.
