No. 7 train service expanded

Calling No. 7 train riders “the backbone of Queens,” State Senator John Sabini recently announced increased service on the train that carries 400,000 people a day.
Amid increased ridership during non-peak hours, new local decentralized leadership and pressure from elected officials like Sabini, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) has increased its weekend service and expects wait times between trains on the No. 7 line to decrease an average of two to three minutes. The agency will run more trains from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays, 6 to 10 a.m., and 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sundays.
“It’s high time that weekend riders were given the same quality of service that weekday riders receive,” Sabini said in a statement.
In April, Sabini hosted informational forums with Lou Brusati, the new general manager of the No. 7 train to empower straphangers and give them a voice, according to Sabini.
Sabini, the ranking member of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, oversees the MTA and is pleased to be able to provide improved service along a line that offers few transfers and provides the main method of public transportation for much of Queens.
“Mass transit is for just that - the masses,” he said. “Improved services reduce the burden on working families who rely on the train every day to get to work and school.”
