The small area of Whitestone Woods should be called the “Lost Woods.” We generally have very little police activity and do not often see officers cruising the neighborhood, accept for Sunday, Sept. 14.
On this day, I was held captive in my home and on my block by police barricades, officers stationed at every corner and blue lines on the street, indicating a marathon. I was not allowed to leave my block in my car that morning at around 7:30 a.m.
There were no postings, if any, around the neighborhood or notices in my mailbox stating I would not be able to leave my block and that I was basically under lockdown. I had to walk around looking for an officer who would allow me to exit. With my two children in the car, I was treated like I was breaking the law. They wanted my license and threatened to write me a ticket.
As tax-paying, law-abiding citizens, don't we get the right to have some notice on these events and a clear, accessible route to exit our neighborhood when we want?
We want to go to church, the store, breakfast, etc., when we want. I hope we have a better plan and exit route in the event of a real emergency.
