HB doctor helping the needy during the holidays

It’s said the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and in the case of Dr. Joseph Campisi, the adage is true.
One of three sons of Gloria and Joseph Campisi — the OLG Deacon who travels to Appalachia to help the poor — the chiropractor, whose office is in South Ozone Park, has been collecting food for City Harvest for eight years.
And this year — with the economy in turmoil and foreclosures forcing people from their homes — it is very important to try to help.
According to the City Harvest web site, “More than 1.5 million New Yorkers currently live in poverty. Of those, more than one million rely on emergency food at some point during the year, including nearly 350,000 children and more than 140,000 elderly.”
Over the past eight years, Campisi and his staff have collected between 500 and 600 pounds of food.
This year, they’d like to beat that.
“It’s a lot more families than you would think [that need help],” said Campisi.
If you’d like to help, you can drop off non-perishable food items — cans, pastas, etc. — to Campisi’s office, 133-55 Lefferts Boulevard, between now and November 24. If you’d like more information, call 718-848-6663.
