Holiday Blood donations

Firefighter Matthew Long required 68 blood transfusions in the first 48 hours after being struck by a charter bus while riding his bike to work.
“Family, friends and strangers came, stepped up to the plate, and donated blood. For that, I say thank you. You saved my life,” Long said.
The blood transfusions came just at the right time, as he was able to compete and finish the New York Marathon on November 2.
Ariana Evans was born prematurely at 29 weeks. Blood transfusions helped her in maintaining good health and gaining weight until she was finally able to go home.
Her mom, Rina Evans, could not be happier at celebrating the holidays with her daughter.
This holiday season, the New York Blood Center is alerting all New Yorkers about a special way in which they can give back to those in need.
According to the Long Island Blood Services, Queens collects 25,000 pints of blood through numerous blood drives, but also gives 75,000 pints of blood to hospitals throughout Queens.
With the need for blood in a very high demand, the New York Blood Center is urging for New Yorkers to take a moment and really think about this holiday season where “giving thanks” could go a long way for people facing medical emergencies.
