Although Shiro of Japan is a fun place for a hibachi lunch or dinner, I personally love their sushi. Stu and I went for lunch and, having just returned from Los Angeles where we had a superb sushi meal, I had the need to have sushi again.
The friendly staff offered some specials but I am a fan of spicy tuna so we ordered a few different dishes that had no rice but a lot of my favorite seafood.
Since it was chilly outside, we began our meal with traditional Miso soup – a clear soup with cubes of tofu. Stu had a sushi bento lunch box. It included shrimp tempura, five pieces of nigiri sushi, vegetables, sliced beef sautéed and grilled fish for $16.50.
It was enough for two but I had to have my spicy tuna in the Sunset Roll, wrapped in kelp with cucumber and tobiko roe – just how I like it – without rice. I also had a Gamera Roll, which includes spicy tuna, crunchy scallions inside and salmon on top, perfectly prepared and so tasty.
I have become a fan of saki and the warm one I ordered added to the flavors of the meal. Stu had a Sapporo beer with his meal with, of course, the mandatory, for us, green tea too.
The sushi a-la-carte menu had multiple offerings for a light bite or, as we had, a bountiful wonderful lunch that actually became our dinner too.
