An open letter to Mayor Michael Bloomberg:
You could feel proud of your accomplishment, being elected for the third time as mayor of the greatest city in the world.
Or should you?
Not everyone can afford to spend huge sums of money on advertising to be elected mayor of New York City. You could have considered how much you could have achieved for your constituents who have been hit hard in these catastrophic times, since so many have been devastated by our economy. You could have donated that fortune to a major charity or to smaller, needier nonprofits.
What a waste of money for someone not ethically eligible but gluttonous enough to force his run for office for a third time.
Not one, but two chances in office should be enough for a takeover mayor to direct our public schools toward a better system of learning and education, rather than merely preparing for the next exam. This is something numerous early childhood education teachers and elementary school principals have discussed with me in my role as national director of the Adults and Children Together mentor program.
ACT is a program of volunteer mentor elders building confidence and a desire to succeed in failing first-through-second-grade children. This is a program recognized by three former U.S. presidents.
Did you ever think of how much good you could have done by donating that fortune to some of the many charities that have helped those who might be less fortunate? There are many city nonprofits trying to reach out to those most needy in these troubled times.
