Yongwei Guo, the husband of Qian Wu, who was gruesomely murdered two weeks ago in Flushing, attended a court appearance for Huang Chen, the suspect in her murder, last Thursday.
He took some time during a recess in the court session to speak with TimesLedger Newspapers. His remarks were translated from Chinese by Walter Chi, an aide to City Councilman Peter Koo (R-Flushing).

Q. How have you been coping?
A. Right now he’s only worried about if the DA can make this case strong and make sure justice is served.
Q. How are the funeral plans going?
For the funeral arrangements he wants to wait for his wife’s son and father to come in from China before he makes plans.
Q. Do you think this tragedy can serve as an example to stop something like this from happening again?
A. He’s saying the TV channel in Shanghai also reported this story, and everyone there was shocked and wondering how this could happen in the United States. His friend in Hong Kong even called to ask him about it.
Q. Where do you go from here?
A. He hasn’t thought about himself yet because the victim has a son in China and he wants to make sure the son is taken care of and, of course, the funeral arrangements. Those are the two most important things to him right now.
Q. What are your thoughts about the police response?
A. He is very upset about the police because his wife filed like seven orders of protection against the suspect, but the police didn’t do enough to protect her. . In China, if the situation’s like this, the police would stay with the victim and once the offender comes back again, they will arrest the offender right away, not just wait there until things happen.
He doesn’t have the plan to make a complaint about the Police Department yet because right now he wants to focus on the funeral arrangements. He admires the speed of the police in catching the suspect.
A. Do you have any other thoughts at this time?
He wants to thank Assemblywoman Meng, Congressman Ackerman and Council member Koo, because his English isn’t good so without the help of elected officials he would have had a much more difficult time.
