The 80 returning police and fire emergency workers who worked feverishly in earthquake-ravaged Haiti to help rescue victims buried in the rubble are to be commended for their indomitable spirit and valor.
They and their canine partners worked under horrendous conditions to go through the rubble of collapsed and weakened structures to find trapped victims. All of New York and America are proud of these and all the rescue teams in Haiti continuing the dangerous task of searching through the debris.
They are the real and true heroes and heroines — not athletes who get paid millions of dollars to hit a baseball, throw a football, dribble a basketball, whack a hockey puck, kick a soccer ball or hit a tennis ball.
Again, congratulations to the returning emergency police and fire personnel. We all salute you.
