Dr. Lyle Leipziger of Great Neck has been named one of the best plastic surgeons in the United States by a leading guide to the top doctors nationwide. He is listed in the latest edition of America’s Top Doctors, a national guide that identifies the very best specialists throughout the United States. “I’m very honored to be among the physicians named in this guide,” said Leipziger, Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. According to the book’s publisher, Castle Connolly, “these outstanding doctors represent the top one percent in the nation.” The doctors were selected after peer nomination, extensive research, and careful review and screening by a doctor-directed research team, according to Castle Connolly.

Farrell Fritz, P.C. is pleased to announce that trusts and estates associate, Jaclene D’Agostino, will be honored by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding accomplishments in the business community. She will be recognized along with 29 other professionals under the age of 30 at a reception on Wednesday, March 10 at Crest Hollow Country Club.

State director of probation and correctional alternatives (DPCA) Robert M. Maccarone announced recently that JoAnne Page, Esq., president and chief executive officer of the Fortune Society in New York City, was one of two individuals to receive DPCA’s inaugural Sara Tullar Fasoldt Leadership and Humanitarian Award. Robert Sudlow, Ulster County’s deputy county executive for government operations and education, and criminal justice, was also presented the honor.

Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman received the prestigious Stanley H. Fuld Award from the New York State Bar Association during its annual meeting at the Hilton New York in Manhattan. Sponsored by the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, the award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions to the development of commercial law and jurisprudence in New York. The section honored Judge Lippman for his integral role in the development of New York’s commercial courts.

LUNAR NEW YEAR

The 39th Annual Legislative Conference of the New York State Association of Black, Latino, and Asian Legislators convened on Friday, February 12 and concluded on Sunday, February 14. History was made when an Asian legislator, Assemblymember Grace Meng, addressed the crowd wishing everyone a very Happy and Healthy [Asian Lunar] New Year! Meng shared with everyone one of the most time-honored traditions of the Lunar New Year, the distribution of red envelopes. The red envelopes, filled with chocolate instead of money, were a great hit.

ENGAGED

Jay P. Persaud and Dr Lyndsay S. Baines became engaged at the Mohegan Congregational Church, CT. Persaud and Baines were introduced by Dr. Rahul Jindal, an eminent transplant surgeon and colleague of Baines’ since their days at University of Oxford. Baines, a British national, is a psychologist with the U.S. Army, Combat Wounds Team, based at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, D.C. Persaud is CEO of Hammock Homes Inc., an apartment rental and management company based in Manhattan, Queens, Bronx and Brooklyn. They plan to marry later in the year.

APPOINTMENTS

The Sylvan Learning Center of Ozone Park>, at 137-20 Cross Bay Boulevard is pleased to announce the appointment of Cynthia Nieto as center director. Nieto brings more than 10 years experience in the for-profit education field. She and her husband, Joseph, are the proud parents of five children and are deeply involved in their Rockaway community. The Center is also pleased to announce the appointment of Deidre Brown-Aguilar as the director of education. Brown-Aguilar brings more than five years of experience as a New York City classroom teacher. She and her husband, Raul, have two children in elementary school. TOURING POLITICIANS

Councilmember Dan Halloran and his staff toured Bayside High School on February 2. Halloran met with faculty, parent, and student leaders to discuss issues concerning the school and the surrounding community.

Assemblymembers Andrew Hevesi and Rory Lancman presented a proclamation to Rabbi Shlomo Nisanov of the Bukharian Jewish Center of Kew Gardens Hills to commemorate the Center’s 20th anniversary.

City Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer toured P.S. 111 on Monday, February 8. He met with teachers, students, parents, the PTA president Julia Ocasio, and parent advocate Ms. Morales. Van Bremer discussed the progress and needs of the school. “I am pleased to report that both reading and math scores are up from last year,” said Van Bramer. “Under the leadership of Principal Seabrook I have high expectations for P.S. 111 moving forward.”
